The Egyptian possibly had the most extensive knowledge of the uses of the oils and other medicinal products. The Ebers Papyrus is an Egyptian medical papyrus of herbal knowledge dating back to 1550 BC in it are some of the oldest surviving prescriptions The KEMETIC people referred to lavenders uses on hieroglyphics and other forms of writings. The word Kemet means ‘the land of black faces.’

In the Victorian era oils were used for perfumes, soaps, sachets and many other aromatic uses.
